The Backpack Feeding Program provides free weekend meals to children enrolled in the United States Department of Agriculture National School Lunch Program’s Free or Reduced Price School Meals. FOCUS West Central PA facilitates the delivery of food to local area schools, who then distribute the food every Friday school is in session. Food is also distributed during the summer at feeding sites.
In each bag, there is enough food for two (2) breakfasts, two (2) lunches, and two (2) dinners, along with several snack items. Items vary per month. Currently, the Backpack Feeding Program provides weekend meals for 200 students per week in Western Pennsylvania.
If you would like to volunteer your time to help with this program, give us a call or visit us during our Office Hours to learn how to become part of our volunteer team. You can also sign up to become a FOCUS volunteer online.
