September Update

Dearest Volunteers, Donors, and Friends:

September has been a blessed month, giving us many new opportunities as an organization. We learned of the dissolving of CAST (Churches Are Serving Together), a local non-profit whose director passed away this past year, and were delighted when we heard we had been selected by the CAST Board to receive donations from their inventory. In one morning, we loaded over 200 packages of elementary school supplies (notebooks, scissors, pencils, pens, crayons, etc.) and 100 cloth backpacks, which were distributed in early September to elementary schools in Beaver Falls, Aliquippa, Ambridge, and Midland. We hope to expand FOCUS West Central PA’s reach to schools in these areas in the future with our Backpack Feeding Program.

In the past, FOCUS West Central PA was blessed to have the aid of the Trails Ministry, via referrals to help families with members in jail or prison with clothing and food; The Table Ministry, which provided us with bread and rolls for our summer meal program; and Faith Restoration, who graciously provided us with sandwich makings and canned goods for our summer meals.

Thank you to all of you for your kindness!

All school administrators and counselors have received invitations to our annual dinner on October 18th. (Quick reminder: the RSVP deadline for registering is Friday, October 5th!) Stephanie Schindel will be the keynote speaker at our dinner this year, and will be speaking about the impact we have had with our week-end backpack program. Ms. Schindel currently teaches in the Human Service Program at Geneva College, serves on the Trails Ministry Board, and counsels elementary students. We very much look forward to hearing her speak!

Lastly, our backpack program will be starting up for the 2018-2019 school year on the first Friday of October (consider volunteering your time and helping to pack!).

Our FREE annual dinner requires online registration on our website.  Anyone is welcome to attend and yes, please bring family and friends from your parish and neighborhood. Our goal is to have all our volunteers attend that night and enjoy one another’s company as we look forward to a new year making a difference!  Thank you to all who help and support this ministry.

God bless,

Father Seraphim
